Going by the peace which crept back to Ile- Ife, Osun State, after three days of mayhem between the Yoruba and the Hausa community, Governor Rauf Aregbesola has extended the curfew imposed on the community, which was supposed to lapse today, till Monday.
According to Ceoafrica, the curfew’s extension is to allow for restoration of peaceful atmosphere in the town.
Findings revealed that hundreds of Hausas who were victims of the mayhem have relocated from the town to adjoining towns like Ilesha, Osogbo, Ijebu-Jesha and others while some of them went back to their respective towns of origin to carry on with their lives.
One of the affected victims, who identified himself as Abubakar Mohammadu, said that he was heading to his friend’s house in Ilesha where he would begin with his life afresh.
Security men now patrol the town to forestall reprisal from any of the two parties involved in the fracas.
However, the Senator representing Osun East (Ife/ Ijesa) Senatorial District, Senator Babajide Omoworare, in a statement in Osogbo, appealed to the indigenes and residents of Ile-Ife to end the on-going feud in Sabo area of the town.
In the statement made available to journalists by his Media Aide, Tunde Dairo, the Senator appealed to all frayed nerves in the community to give peace and dialogue a chance.
“There is no alternative to peace, we must collectively live in atmosphere of peace for mutual prosperity, this has been the long-standing practice and must be sustained in the interest of everyone.
“This is with a view to finding a lasting solution to the present imbroglio and prevent future occurrence.
“I sympathise with everyone affected by the crisis and implore the law enforcement agents to intensify their effort to bring the situation under control and restore peace and harmony to Ile-Ife.
“I am in touch with the Governor of Osun State who is putting in place every measure to ensure lasting peace.
“I have also spoken to Ooni of Ife and collaborating with other Senators in this respect. With this collective efforts and maximum cooperation from everyone, a lasting solution will soon manifest”, Omoworare said.
