COMMUNITY POLICING: STUDENTS CHARGED ON CRIME PREVENTION

The need for proper sensitization of the young ones on the need to stay away from crime and crime related activities has been emphasized.

Oyo state commissioner of police Mr. Mohammed Indabawa disclosed this during the community policing school outreach at the Mapo hall, Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

The commissioner who was represented by the assistant commissioner of police Oyo state ACP Janet Agbede stated that the essence of the programme is to enlighten the young ones on how to prevent as well as stay away from crime and criminal activities noting that it would help in reducing the crime rate in the future.

In preventing child abuse, the commissioner advised parents not to expose their wards to activities that would influence them wrongly adding that if they are well trained, it would help in not just reducing the work of the police but ensuring a safer society in future .

 He advised the children to ensure they move in the right company and be good ambassadors of their home and state  

The commissioner also commended the Oyo state governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi for his efforts in ensuring the reduction of crime as well as sustaining peace and stability in the state.

In his speech, the vice chairman of the Oyo state Police Community Relations Committee Asiwaju Gbenga Adegbesan encouraged the public to speak out whenever a crime is committed in their area adding that it is their responsibility to report to the police about happenings in the community.

He commended the force for using the resources allocated to it judiciously in the fight against crime in the state and appreciated the police for putting the programme together as it would help in bringing the police closer to the people.

In his welcome address the chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government Area, Alhaji Abass Najeemdeen Bolaji who was represented at the occasion by the local government secretary catechist John Ige enjoined the students to ensure they maintain law and order at all times as it would help in the all round development of the nation.

Describing the Oyo state governor Senator Ajimobi as a man of great morals, the chairman hailed the governor for his fight against crime as well as ensuring and sustaining peace in the state. He   also commended the police for putting the programme together.

The event served as a platform for the students to be educated on ways to avoid being abused by older members of the public as well as encouraged to report crime and crime related activities around their community to the police through the various police control numbers given to them at the event.
