The Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) has frowned at the non-implementation of the agreement reached with the Joint Health Sector Union on August 27, 2013, by the Federal Government, threatening to embark on industrial action with effect form December 24.

The union in a communique issued at the end of its meeting and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday, said government should take step towards implementation of all agreements, particularly as in involves skipping of CONHESS 10, promotion from CONHESS 14 to 15, consultancy, 65 years retirement age for all workers in the health sector to avoid any industrial action.

In the communique which was signed by the Sector Chairman, Comrade M.O Ogundipe and the Sector Secretary, Comrade T.M Awo, the union expressed dismay over the resignation of Alhaji Yayale Ahmed as the chairman of Presidential Committee of Expert on Harmony among professionals in the heath sector due to non-funding.

It appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to provide necessary funds for the

committee to commence its job. It also rejected the withdrawal of the circular letter issued by the Minister of Health abolishing the positions of Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee and Deputy Head Clinical Services (DCMAC/DHCS created by various federal health institutions.

According to the union, this is in violation of the extant laws creating those institutions and the schemes of service approved by the National Council on Establishment.

It therefore called for the immediate reversal of the circular reintroducing the illegal positions of DCMAC/DHCS in most hospitals. While noting that some Chief Medical Directors/Medical Directors of Federal Ministry of Health have not acted positively on the skipping of CONHESS 10.The union disclosed that branches would commence industrial action where the circulars had not been implemented.
