The Management of University of Ibadan has said that plans are underway to resolve the on-going indefinite strike embarked on by the institution’s chapter of Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the proposed strike by the institution’s Academic Staff Union (ASUU).
The UI Director of Public Communication, Mr O.M. Oladejo made this known during a call to CEOAfrica adding that the management of UI are taking steps to appeal to the two unions to suspend the strike actions so that academic activities can proceed smoothly.
Members of the Non-academic staff unions at the University of Ibadan had on Monday began an indefinite strike to protest the illegal deductions of pension fund and shortfall in the payment of salaries by the university management.
On the other hand, the academic staff union of the institution had also threatened to embark on a one-week strike for similar reasons as NASU as well as to protest unpaid postgraduate supervision allowance and promotion arrears.
UI ASUU through its Chairman, Dr Deji Omole however said the position of its congress to proceed on a warning strike was still being processed by the national headquarters of the union.
Mr Oladejo noted that the school’s management are dialoguing with the unions for the suspension of the strike actions.
