The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has installed new 15,000 meters in its second phase of free-meter deployment exercise in the state.

Speaking at the flagging-off of the exercise at Mundubawa road in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Raul Sing, said 65, 000 meters were secured for free deployment to electricity consumers in the state.

Sing said despite apprehension by KEDCO’s customers about the new meters, the company deemed it necessary to deploy them in order to ensure equitable assessment of energy consumption by customers, stressing “we want to ensure that customers only paid for what they have consumed.”

On his part, the company’s Chief Customer Relations Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, said “Everybody knows that we don’t have enough energy to meet the demand of our customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, but with accurate metering we can save some energy for equitable distribution to customers,” he said.

It would be recalled that the first phase of the metering was launched in June last year with 15, 000 installed at various residences in Kabuga area.
