Reports reaching CEOAfrica reveals that a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Salihu Shadafu Adamu, representing the Bosso/Paiko federal constituency in Niger State was brutally attacked by some aggrieved youths in his constituency.
It took the intervention of men of the Niger State Police Command which was invited by some good Samaritans several minutes to save the lawmaker from the clutches of his attackers.
It was gathered that lawmaker who sustained serious injury from the assault was first admitted at a private medical hospital in the Tunga area of the state capital before being referred for further medical attention in Kaduna.
Trouble was said to have started for the lawmaker when he drove into one of the villages in his constituencies to attend a political meeting.
But the youths who were said to have been angry with the politician, took exception to his presence at the meeting, because he had failed to visit them since he was elected almost two years ago.
It was gathered that immediately he arrived for the meeting, the youths advised him to leave in his own interest but the lawmaker ignored the threat.
An eye witness said “One of the youths first slapped him, another hit him in the stomach making him to fall to the ground. It then became a free for all as every youth there tried to take their pound of flesh from the politician.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the story, said “It was a politically-motivated attack,” adding that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
