NIGERIA (Borno) – Gunmen suspected to be members of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, struck again on Friday in Bama, Borno State when they attacked a military barrack, spraying gunfire on the troops inside before touching the compound.

While confirming the incident, Army Spokesperson in Borno State, Mohammed Dole, said the military has deployed fighter jets and ground forces in pursuit of the gunmen.

“There was an attack on the military barracks in (the town) of Bama this morning.” He said.

Bama has become a flashpoint in the insurgency and the scene of several bold Islamist attacks. One of the Islamist rebels’ largest-ever strikes targeted the military in Bama in June.

According to what CEOAFRICA.com gathered, Dole and other residents did not give estimate of casualties.

It would be recalled that in May, Federal Government declared state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, following series of attacks which Boko Haram sects have launched at the region.

Boko Haram, declared a foreign terrorist group by the United States, has said it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north.
