The Senate at their proceeding yesterday authorized the sack of 3,000 National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) workers and approved the restoration of 96 disengaged officials of the commission.

CEOAFRICA news correspondence gathered that this order followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the Joint Committee that considered the petition by 4,029 disengaged members of the staff.

According to the report, the decision was made valid on the note that some of the workers falsified their record while some others absent from work for months.

Taking into serious consideration of the glaring fact that the economic and security situation in the country make the disengagement of over 3,000 employee from one establishment very disastrous, the lawmakers unanimously agreed that each disengaged person be paid one year salary as take-home severance allowance, adding that the package stand at N621,953.00 at the lowest and N1,441,735.60 as the highest.

The report also said the disengagement affected was in the 36 state and Abuja, without exception.

However, the order also directs that any dissatisfied worker could seek redress in a law court as most of the allegation centered on criminality.
