The Nigeria Custom Service on Monday destroyed 16,180 cartoons of frozen

Products worth N103, 547,955 million. The products which were impounded by Customs men on Saturday at Orile Ilugu in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State were destroyed with chemical at Arapaja village dump site in Ibadan by the Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.

 

The Customs Area Controller for Oyo-Osun Command, Mr. Richard Oteri while addressing newsmen at dump site, said the smugglers took advantage of the yuletide season to smuggle the frozen products into the country, adding that the consumption of frozen products is injurious to health. On sighting the customs team, Oteri the driver abandoned the vehicle and took to his heels.

 

He warned Nigerians to desist from the consumption of frozen products because is injurious to health due to the method of preservation. “We are battle ready to track down the smugglers,” he said adding that the truck used to convey the frozen products would be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service has generated N13, 850,539,942.80 billion between January and November this year as against the N15 billion set as target for the year.

 

The Customs Area Controller for OyoOsun Command, Oteri Richard who disclosed in Ibadan on Monday expressed hope that the command would meet the target before the end of the year.
