KENYA- An accident which happened early Tuesday morning at Mtito Andei in Kenya, has claimed not less than 15 lives.

Confirming the incident, Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru said the accident occurred when a Horizon bus heading towards Mombasa collided with a Spring bus heading towards Nairobi.

Kimaru explained that the Horizon bus was overtaking a convoy of trucks when it collided head-on with the Nairobi bound bus. He said that the drivers of the two buses died on the spot while more than 50 passengers escaped with injuries.

Those with serious injuries were rushed to the nearby hospitals in Mtito Andei, Voi and Makindu. The Kenya Red Cross Society said that 61 casualties had been taken to the Makindu hospital.

Eight people were seriously injured in a separate accident at Burnt Forest when a bus collided with a truck. Kimaru is urging motorists to be cautious on the roads this festive season while at the same time challenging passengers to demand responsible driving.
