Government agencies and ministries owe up to N6.16 billion utility bills. This has been described as a ridiculous revelation, particularly because the government has been threatening its citizens to pay or face the consequences.

This shocking revelation was made by the Independence Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC. The commission said N3,378,882,771.62 is owed in Ibadan, N278,074,139.20 in Kaduna and N2,508,724,229.44 in Benin.

Ekpo Nta, the Chairman of ICPC, squealed that another N1.2b was discovered in the accounts of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Iruua Specialist Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.

“About N23b pension fund scattered in 40 bank accounts of the office of the head of civil service of the federation had been pruned to four bank accounts. This has greatly reduced corruption risk in pension fund administration. About N469,325,189.26 accrued interest discovered in the pension accounts were recovered and remitted to STF,” Nta explained.
