Sultan tasks Muslims, Christians on tolerance

The President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar on Thursday called for religious tolerance among adherents of both Islam and Christianity.

Speaking at the formal opening ceremony of the 96th Islamic Vacation Course (IVC),organized by Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria,  MSSN, B-Zone,  held at IVC permanent site, kilometer 30, Ibadan/Lagos expressway, Abubakar said when Muslims and Christians tolerated one another, there would be peace in the society. He reiterated that the act of violence as being exhibited by the members of the Boko Haram had no basis in Islam.

The governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola emphasized that Muslim should preach Islam with knowledge and wisdom as the act of violence negated the teaching of Prophet Muhammad.

He called for consistent prayer to end socio- political crisis rocking the country. Similarly, The governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun urged religious leaders to imbibe the act of mutual relationship in their teaching in order to enhance peace which Islam symbolized.

Earlier, the President, MSSN, Southern Zone, Mallam Mushafar Alaran who said over six thousand students from 17 states of the south- west and south-south geo-political zones of the country attended the camp programme noted that the essence of the course was to instill the true teaching of Islam on the participants.
