In reaction to the current ethnic agitations threatening the peace of the country, a Professor of Development Communication in University of Ibadan, Professor Muhammed Yahyah has blamed the cause of the agitations on injustice.
In a brief interview with CEOAfrica, Prof Yahyah stated that conflicts of this nature often arise when there is injustice and a breakdown in communication, adding that injustice breeds acrimony.
He said, “The major reason for all these agitations is because there is a perceived injustice to some ethnic groups and the best solution is to sit down, dialogue and address the grievances of these groups.”
Professor Yahyah further explained that it behoves on the elected representatives in the National Assembly to deliberate on how to ensure that every ethnic group in Nigeria is adequately represented in government and is not deprived of what other groups enjoy.

Speaking on the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last two years of his administration, the professor said that although he cannot rate the President as having performed well or not because his administration is not over, he however thinks that the President’s effort in tackling security, corruption and economy should be commended.
According to him, the “Although it is still a work in progress, the President’s effort in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency is commendable as the Boko Haram activities are not as intense as it used to be. The Nigerian Army has been able to claim the areas taken by the terrorists.”
On the nation’s economy, the Professor Yahyah stated the economic challenges besetting the country is as a result of the high importation rate of the country. He said “Our insatiable thirst for imported goods affected the economy and this has been happening before Buhari came into power.
“We consider it as a status symbol when we have imported materials and we even brag about it. Most people refuse to patronise locally made product and this was the root cause of our economic challenges which Buhari is trying to fix by reducing importation and encouraging locally made products,” the Professor said.
