War has been declared on cultism in Akure, ondo state by the police following the death of about ten people within a week in a cult related killings.
Mrs Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, the state Commissioner of Police, made this statement while condemning the cultists’ activities in Akure. Due to this happening, 24 hour surveillance in some areas identified as black spots to rid the state of criminals and criminal activities has begun by the state police command.
Harrison while speaking during a meeting with senior police officers said the meeting became imperative because of the recent upsurge in criminal activities in the state in the last two weeks.
The Police boss informed that over 30 suspects have been in police custody over the various cultist clashes and killings in Akure, adding that the suspects would be arraigned before the court soon.
Some members of the cult group who ran away to escape arrest are being trailed by the police.
Mrs Hilda further commended members of the public for cooperating and providing relevant and useful information to the detectives in the state which led to the arrest of the most of the suspected cultists.
The police boss added that the command would carry out massive raids on abandoned buildings and other criminal hideouts in the capital city to ensure that criminals are being flushed out of the state.
Magistrate Judge, Victoria Bob-Manuel, has ordered the remand of the 20 suspects who were charged to court pending the conclusion of the police investigation.
