Physically challenged in prison

 Uchenna Isaac, a physically challenged, charged with armed robbery was denied bail on Monday by the Lagos state High Court sitting at Igbosere for jumping bail.

He was denied bail by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo after his surety, Abdulraheem Razak, an ex-Police Officer refuses to take responsibilities as a surety for the accused.

Isaac is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

 The Lagos State Prosecutor, Mr. R. O. Aroyewun, said the accused robbed the complainant, Adeyemi Adedotun, of his Toyota Corolla car (2000 model) with registration no. LSD 807 AA‎. on June 23, 2012 at about 10.39 a.m. at Abraham Adesanya Estate,  Ajah, Lagos with a armed gun.

He also added that the accused stole a Nokia phone, a BlackBerry phone, a wallet, a driver’s license, an ATM card, a dairy and N35, 000.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 295 (1) and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, the judge denied the accused bail, saying he has jumped bail, adding that the accused has been absent during court proceedings since march most especially May 20 and June 19 until a bench warrant was issued against him.

— Razak and Chinyere Isaac (the accused siblings) also his sureties were ordered by the judge to appear before her and state reasons why the accused refuse to appear in court at the last adjournment.

The sureties claimed that the accused was ill.

Razak immediately informed the court that he would no longer stand as a surety for the accused because he could no longer trust him.

The judge then denied him bail and ordered that he should be remanded in prison until the determination of his case or pending when he would be able to produce a second surety.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 21 for continuation of trial.
