NIGERIA (Anambra)-The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has said the party should be counted out of the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.

This was disclosed by the governorship candidate of the party at the November 2013 election, Sen. Chris Ngige, while addressing a press conference yesterday in Awka, the state capital.

The one time governor of the state said the decision of the party to boycott the election was inspired by the review of the last governorship election in the state.

He added that few days to the election which was scheduled for January 11, 2014, voters’ register has not been given to parties and the last voters register used by INEC in conducting the gubernatorial election has not been reviewed, hence APC is insisting on an authentic voters register.

Ngige said from all indications, INEC is not ready for the election, and the credibility of any poll conducted without adequate preparation is questionable.

He, however, alleged that there were desperate moves by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in collaboration with INEC, to ensure that “APC is completely excluded from all elective positions in the state against the will of the people.”

The lawmaker, who represents Anambra Central Constituency, also took a swipe at the acting chairman of  Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, Mr Sylvester Okonkwo, for requesting political  parties  to submit the list of candidates and their forms to the commission “when issues leading to a free, fair and credible election in the state are yet to be addressed.”
