The Majority Leader of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Kehinde Hassan Subair has attributed the fast-paced development of Oyo State Legislative Arm to the peaceful political and social atmosphere enjoyed in the state.
Speaking at an exclusive interview with CEOAfrica on its online television programme Community Today, Hon Subair noted that the in-house rancour that was prevalent in the past no longer obtains in the 8th Assembly, adding that the State House of Assembly enjoys peaceful proceedings.
While noting that the legislature is the major component of a democratic state, the Majority Leader blamed the instability experienced by the previous Assemblies on the intervention of Military regime. He however noted that the 8th Assembly has been working judiciously to maintain peace and harmony in the House and in the state.
Although Hon Subair noted that the House sometimes disagree over issues, he explained that the lawmakers trash out their disagreements amicably and most times they disagree to agree. He said “It’s not that we don’t have rancour among ourselves; we do but we handle and settle it. That is what we have been doing and as time goes on, we would even do better.”

The Majority Leader further appreciated the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Michael Adeyemo for his immeasurable effort in ensuring peace and stability in the House. “The Speaker of the House is adept at managing people and situations. By virtue of his maturity and experience, he has been very instrumental to the stability enjoyed in the House today,” he said.
Hon Subair however disagreed with the common perception that the Legislative is only considered to be functional when it is always at loggerheads with the Executive. He explained that the two Arms of government do not have to disagree publicly for people to know that the Legislative is working.
The lawmaker representing Ibadan South West Constituency noted that there are times when the two Arms of government differ on some issues, but rather than escalate the disagreement out of proportion, the two parties find a common ground and resolve the issues amicably for the sake of the State’s peace and stability.
Speaking about his achievements as a lawmaker, Hon Subair noted that he has sponsored and co-sponsored about five Bills and 11 motions including the motion for the provision of pipe borne water and the motion to curb street fighting among Secondary school students. He added that he has been able to please members of his constituency.
Hon Subair took the opportunity to commend the efforts of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in ensuring peace and security in the State. He noted that peace is the most important factor that will allow for the rapid development of a society. He therefore enjoined the good people of Oyo State to maintain peace in the State.
