Nigeria President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South West on Saturday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election. At a meeting which was attended by the chairmen of the party in the zone held in Ibadan, the party also expressed support for the leadership of the national chairman, Dr Bamanga Tukur.
The chairman of the party in Ogun State, and chairman of the chairmen, Engineer Bayo Dayo while welcoming delegate to the meeting, said the party had resolved to support the president and the chairman towards ensuring the success of the party at the 2015 general election.
The party also demanded for zonal congress and extra ordinary congress while re affirming its support for the National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo.
"When some party leaders approached the National Working Committee (NWC) to withdraw the support for President Jonathan, we told them it was not possible" he said. He explained that since the South West had ruled the country for eight years, "we support other zone to rule and have their terms in the interest of unity of this country."
He said that it was undemocratic for NWC to tell Jonathan not to run for presidency in 2015, adding "we are all entitle to the post of president in this country."
The convener of the meeting,Buruji Kasamu noted that the PDP needs strong people to reclaim the zone, adding that winning Ekiti governorship election in 2014 would serve as deterrent to other states.
While calling for unity among party members, he warned that the party was supreme and powerful than individual or group.
