The Nigeria Customs Service says it has intercepted 4,500 cartons of frozen products put at N21.6m in Ogun State.

The products were seized by operatives of the State Command along the Idiroko border-posts after they were thought to be injurious for human consumption.

The Ogun Area Controller of Customs, Sani Magudu, who disclosed this on Monday at the command headquarters said the frozen products were loaded in 10 vehicles.

He added that they were being smuggled into Nigeria from the neighbouring sister state of Benin Republic with some used vehicles before they were intercepted.

The Customs Area Controller noted that the importation of such products into the country remained banned in accordance with the directive of the Federal Government.

He explained that the directive was aimed at protecting the health of the populace and supporting the production of local poultry products for the nation’s economic growth and development.
