Rivers Police Denies Being Under Pressure to Release Criminals

NIGERIA (Rivers) –Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has denied a report that it is under pressure from some political heavyweights in the Country to release some criminals accused of possessing arms illegally in the state.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Rivers State Police Command, DSP. Ahmad K. Muhammad, it stated that the 2nd Brigade of the Nigerian Army had written to notify the Command that it has in its custody, some men who were arrested for being in possession of some AK 47 riffles and ammunition.

DSP. Muhammad said the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Commander, CSP Tunji Disu, is still waiting for the transfer of the exhibits mentioned above from the 2nd Brigade of the Nigerian Army before he can commence interrogation.

He added that Police do not rush into conclusion but carry out discreet investigation before making things public.

DSP. Muhammad then described the media allegation as untrue, misleading and mischieavous.
