Oyo Police scorecard: arrests 122 suspected robbers in 2013

No fewer than 122 suspected armed robbers were arrested in Oyo State between January and December 2013 as against the 102 arrested in 2012.

 

The state Commissioner of Police Muhammed Indawaba while giving the command’s scorecard in Ibadan on Tuesday, disclosed that 1,078 suspects were convicted for various crimes in the year under review against 789 convicted in 2012.

 

He disclosed that 60,997 ammunitions and cartridges were recovered in 2013 while 23,127 were recovered in 2012. According to him, in November 2013, acting on information, the police recovered 1098 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp valued at about N18 million in two separate operations.

 

He said 103 arms were recovered in 2013 as against 69 in 2012. The CP added that the Command recovered 198 stolen vehicles were recovered in 2013 while 103 were recovered in 2012.

 

The police boss disclosed that 14 cases of murder was reported in 2013 as against 33 in 2012 while 17 suicide cases were reported in 2012 as against 14 in 2013, He said compared with the year 2012, the state police command had improved in the performance of its statutory duties and assured that the relative level of peace and security enjoyed by the people of state did not diminish.

 

He said the command had resolved to make the state economic viable and attractive to investors through result-oriented policing. He said officers and men of command had been re-engineered on improved service delivery to the good people of the state.
