27-Year-Old Man Arraigned for Raping a-5-Year-Old Girl in Taraba

NIGERIA (Taraba) –A 27-year-old man, William Julius, was arraigned at the Jalingo Magistrate Court yesterday for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Christmas Day.

A resident of Abuja Phase 2 in Jalingo, Julius denied the allegation when it was read to him.

According to the prosecutor, Godfrey Moses, the rape incident was reported at the Taraba Police Command by the victim’s father, Joseph Ubandoma, on December 25, 2013.

He added that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor said the complainant told the police that the accused came to his residence and lured his daughter into an uncompleted building.

He said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter without her consent, thereby causing her injuries.

Mr. Moses, a police sergeant, asked the court for a short adjournment of the case to enable him conclude investigation, given that the accused had denied the charge.

The magistrate, Aliyu Baffa, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to January 20.
