Oyo/Osun Customs Area Command realises 15bn

The Nigeria Customs Service Oyo/Osun Area Command on Thursday disclosed that it realized N15,519,122,324.64 billion between January and December 2013.The Area Commander, Oteri Richard said in Ibadan that this was against the N11,648,528,475.80 generated in 2012, saying that it was 14 per cent increase.

 

According to him, this was realised in the areas of payment on imported vehicles as a result of an aggressive enlightment campaign. He explained that 17,360 vehicles paid duty to the tune of N172, 143,328 million as against 1,102 vehicles with a total collection of N84, 802,519.91 million in 2012.

 

He said 270 seizures were made in the year under review with the value of N706, 435,255.79. The Customs boss said the seizures included the interception of 56,750 pieces of live cartridges in a Ford bus with registration number XD577GWA and Chassis number WFOHXXGBVHNA88952 along Igboho Saki axis.

 

He added that the cartridges were handed over to the police for further investigation. He said 12,251 bags of rice were intercepted within the period under review, while frozen food valued N321, 770,660 was also intercepted and destroyed. Richard further disclosed that 227 vehicles valued at N129, 875,040 were intercepted while suspects with fake documents for smuggled vehicles were arrested.
