Osun Police Arrest Deaf And Dumb Teenager For Theft

Osun State Police Command on Saturday apprehended a 14 year old physically-challenged boy simply identified as Sodiq for allegedly carting awayproperties belonging to a private school in Osogbo, Osun state, southwest Nigeria.

The stolen properties worth thousands of naira, the police said.The deaf and dumb teenager who was said to have been caught red-handed by one of the teachers of the school around 7.30 pm on Friday had broken into one of the offices in the school.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police Command, Mrs Folashade Odoro who confirmed the arrest of the handicapped boy, said he had been  detained while investigation continues on the matter.

According to the PPRO, the suspect allegedly broke into an office at Omolayo Private School, located at Power Line area, Osogbo and carted away the school properties before he was eventually caught.

She said the case was reported to the Oja-Oba Police division by one Mrs Grace Aremu who teaches in the school before it was later transferred to the state Police Command. Mrs Odoro stated that the suspect attempted to escape but for the prompt assistance of residents of the area.

Meanwhile, the state command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed a fire incident at a shopping complex in Ara, Egbedore Local Government Area of the state. The PPRO, Mrs Folashade Odoro in a statement issued in Osogbo stated that no life was lost in the inferno, but properties worthy millions of naira were lost to the inferno. She however warned the people against reckless handling of inflammable materials and electric devices.
