The New Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Ojeleke Abegunrin

Ibadan Awaits the Coming of The New Catholic Archbishop, as Pope’s Representative Arrives on Thursday

NIGERIA (Oyo)- Activities marking the installation of Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin as the new Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese and the Metropolitan See of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province shall commence tomorrow, January 22, 2014.

Catholic faithful will gather at the Ibadan end of the Ibadan-Ife Expressway to warmly welcome Archbishop Abegunrin, from where he will proceed to St. Mary’s Cathedral Oke-Padi where he will be received by his predecessor and the Archbishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Dr. Felix Alaba Adeosin Job.

Immediately after the reception, both Archbishops shall conduct Benediction at the same venue, while other parishes across the Archdiocese shall have their own simultaneously.

On Thursday, January 23, 2014, Archbishop Emeritus Felix Alaba Job and Archbishop Gabriel Abegunrin shall welcome the representative of Pope Francis, who is also the Papal Nuncio to Nigeria, Archbishop Kasujja at the Alakia Airport, after which the trio, along with other dignitaries, shall proceed to the Office of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi on a courtesy visit.

Friday, January 24 is the Solemn High Mass where Archbishop Abegunrin shall be officially installed as the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese and the Metropolitan of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province at SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan. Time: 10 am.

On Sunday, January 26, 2014, the new Archbishop shall celebrate his Thanksgiving and first Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, Oke-Padi, Ibadan, followed by reception at the church premises immediately after mass.
