Willie Obaino, the Anambra State Governor-elect under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, may be stripped of his victory by an Abuja Federal High Court on Friday, next week (31 January).

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has asked the court to apply for an order of mandamus compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Inspector General of Police to prosecute Obiano for multiple voter registration fraud.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole said Obiano should be tried in accordance with section 12 (2) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), and section 4 and 23 of the Police Act, Cap P19 LFN, 2004. Obiano was said to have been issued a Voter Registration Number 90F5B12B88377091121 AT 2:18 pm on August 21, 2013, and another registration number, 90F5B15E7D378200332 at 10:25 am on September 3, 2013. APC claimed that “Further investigation revealed that Obiano had earlier registered at Ifako/Soluyi Ward 2, Polling Unit 620 – Junction of Ramot Oluwakemi Street, Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, with a Voter Registration Number 90F5B12BO1296204172, with a serial number 461.”

After listening to the submissions of APC counsel, Mr. John Aineto, Justice Kolawole fixed 31 January to rule on the motion.
