The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday has fulfilled its promise of a N1.25m reward to individuals who could help in arresting culprits who perpetrated the Ejigbo women assault.

At a  stakeholders’ meeting earlier convened by the Ad-hoc Committee set up to investigate the matter, the chairman of the committee and Leader of the Assembly, Honourable Ajibayo Adeyeye, Kosofe 2, had promised a N1.25 million reward for any individual or group who can assist in revealing information that would lead to the arrest of those behind the dastardly act. Reports have indicated that the culprits have been arrested at the palace of the Ojon of Ejigbo, Oba Morufu Ojoola leading to the Assembly redeeming its pledge.

During the presentation of the cash, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, condemned the act describing it as “ungodly and dehumanizing.  In fact I could not think of such dastardly act happening in our own Lagos, especially in the 21st century”.He however thanked the civil society organizations especially Dr. Joel  Okei Odumakin led Women Arise For  Change Initiative, Oba Moruf Adekunle Ojoola, Ojon of Ejigbo, the Nigerian Police and all the good  people  of the state for their  effort  in fishing  out the culprits .

To the victims, Ikuforiji said “I pray to God to help calm you and give you a renewed life”. The N1.25m was shared among three parties who were involved in informing the Assembly. They are: the civil society organization, N500, 000; the victims’ family, N500, 000; and the traditional ruler,  N250,000.

The culprits were apprehended last week and handed over to the police for prosecution. Dr. Odumakin said the Lagos State House of Assembly has restored the confidence in the people because “the Assembly has done the needful by dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the‘t’s so that those who carried out this stone age act were apprehended”.

Noting that Justice delayed is justice denied, she urged the Assembly House should ensure that justice is carried out to the latter. Odumakin reiterated that with the Assembly’s handling of the case so far, “All hope is not lost, Justice belong to all of us; not only the rich or the middle class in the society”.

The case was therefore handed over to the Lagos State Ministry of Justice; Office of the Public Defender (OPD), Director, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi for further action..
