The governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom in a statement released by the chief of Press Secreatary , Terver Akase says the governor has declared three days of mourning for those killed in recent attacks on communities in Logo and Guma local government areas of the state. Suspected herdsmen attacked the communities on New Year day and on Saturday January 6th, killing 59 persons including a pregnant woman.
Mr Terver Akase said “The mourning period will be from Tuesday to Thursday this week and end with a church service for the victims at the IBB square in Makurdi, followed by mass burial'.
Terver in his statement, said all flags are to be flown at half-mast throughout while work would close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday January 11th has been declared a work free day as the church service and burial of the victims would take place.
