ARMY ASSURES UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN OF ITS COLLABORATION TO TACKLE INSURGENCY IN NIGERIA

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to solving the security challenges confronting the country for Nigerians to have a relative peace. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Tijani Jibrin made the remarks in his office while welcoming the management of the University of Ibadan led by the Vice Chancellor professor Isaac Folorunsho Adewole.

Commanders and principal staff officers of the Division present during the visit were Brigadier Generals JA Oladeinde, AMS Anyalechi, EB Kabuk, Colonels MM Kini, B Kauche, FC Onyeari, Lt Col MA Anka amongst others.

On the Vice Chancellor’s team were the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Arinola Osanya, Registrar, Mr OI Olukoya, University ofLiberian Dr BO Oladele, Director of works, Engineer Kehinde Ajibola, Professor OBC Nwolise, Director Public Communication, Mr OM Oladeyo amongst others.

General Jibrin stated that education central to national development, describing University of Ibadan as very important institution to the military for obvious reasons. He noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces attend University of Ibadan for Masters Degree in Strategic Studies and other relevant courses.

General Jibrin commended the efforts of the Vice Chancellor and his team for visiting the Division, urging synergy between the Nigerian Army and University of Ibadan with a view to proffering viable solutions to various crimes and insurgencies prevalent in Nigeria.

While speaking, during the visit, Professor Adewole stated the purpose of the visit was to establish cordial relationship with 2 Division Nigerian Army, stressing that the Nigerian Army has remained the bastion in the area of protecting lives and property in the country.

According to him, the University is in existence because it generates and transmits knowledge and address societal problems, maintaining that the military as an institution designed to address some of the societal challenges have not rested on their oars at maintaining peace and security in the country.

Professor Adewole added that the University derives its legitimacy from and stability of the country, saying that the University and the military are institutions that need to collaborate to bring about durable peace in the country.

The Vice Chancellor applauded the efforts of the GOC in transforming the Division since he assumes office, adding that partnering with the military is necessary to carry out research in order to find out the causes of insurgencies in some parts of the country.

Highlight of the visit was exchange of souvenirs between the GOC and the Vice Chancellor.
