Wife of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Mrs Florence Ajimobi
The wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi yesterday called on the women to participate in the registration exercise of the All Peoples Congress (APC). Speaking at the distribution of food items to about 500 widows and aged from the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state, she said that their registration as members of the party would ensure continuity of good governance in the state.
The registration is expected to hold in February. She also disclosed that more people were welcome into the fold of APC, warning that they should not allow any political party to come and take over the state. While noting that the state had witnessed peace since 2011, she urged them to allow it to continue beyond 2015.
According to her, it is through registration of more members that the party can boast of the majority which will reflect during the election. She said that the merger of defunct All Nigerian Political Party, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Political Change (CPC) should be an advantage for the APC to win the 2015 governorship election in the state. "There is no more ANPP, CAN and CPC in the state, we are one. People should come and join the APC," she said while assuring that the party would not discriminate against new members.
Speaking on the Ajumose Food Bank, the governor's wife said it was aimed at eradicating poverty among widows and aged. While noting that the programme started in 2013 and that it had went round the 33 local government areas in the state, she said at least 500 people benefited from each council.
Speaking on the programme, the chairman Ibadan North Local Government, Idris Olapade, said it had never happened in the state. He called on the people of the state to support the governor's second term ambition
