Rising from its inaugural tink-tank meeting at the weekend ahead of the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States, the states’ chapters of Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation (AGF) have warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Federal Government against using the term “Federal Might” at the polls to subvert the will of the people because such will attract high resistance from the people.

This is contained in a joint communique issued at the end of the meeting at Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort. The coordinators of the two chapters: Comrades Adeleye Akintola and Adeboye Adebayo, said the two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors in Ekiti and Osun states seeking re-election had performed wonderfully well in achieving better governance in all sectors in the two states and they had been certified OK by the people and any attempt to use the so-called federal might in any of the two states to shortchange the will of the people will be resisted vehemently by the people.

“From our independent opinion sampling in the two states, we discovered that the generality of the populace and electorate are happy with the performances of both governors in their respective states and are clamouring that they should continue for another term in offce. Our findings revealed that the people are ready to resist any attempt by individuals or agents of PDP or the Federal Government to try any nonsense against their will at the polls. They cited Anambra election which they described as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) show of shame, warning that such should not be transported to Ekiti and Osun states,” the communique reads.

The communique also condemned the activities of one Buruji Kashamu, a criminal wanted in the United States who is now the leader of the southwest PDP. “We are not surprised that Buruji Kashamu, a criminal wanted in the US is the leader of the southwest PDP for obvious reasons, but we wonder how a man with a questionable character intends to win election for PDP in the southwest, starting with Ekiti and Osun states.”

AGF warned Kashamu and his cohorts to be very careful of their activities as the elections approach because the people are keenly watching them and will not fold their arms to allow some unscrupulous and rejected elements turn back the clock of meaningful progress in the southwest. The two chapters of the Foundation also used the opportunity of the meeting to appeal to the national leadership of the APC to wade into the internal crisis that is rocking the party in Ogun and Ondo states.

“We appeal to the national leadership of our great party, APC, to please wade into the internal crisis that is rocking our party in Ogun and Ondo states. In Ogun State, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has pledged his respect and loyalty to the party leader in the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba and it is our hope that this will bring peace and sanity to the party in the state and in Ondo State, our position is that it is very wrong for an interim steering committee to be inaugurated without considering an all-inclusive interest, a situation where the major financiers and loyalists of the progressive party in the state since the time of AD to the AC, ACN and now to the APC were excluded from the scheme of things is totally unacceptable and also the ANPP, CPC and other major stakeholders including the youths are not being carried along. This is not good for our widely accepted party that will provide the needed alternative governance for Ondo State as from 2017, hence we request that the national leaders should wade in because we cannot allow Ondo State to go the way of conservative forces again,” the communique concluded.
