NIGERIA (Enugu)- Frank Nweke (Jr), a former Information Minister, has declared his intention to jostle for Senatorial position in Enugu East Senatorial district in 2015.

He said this yesterday in Enugu during a chat with newsmen, adding that he is more than ready to represent the interest of the people in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

“I believe I am eminently qualified, and have what it takes to represent the good people of Enugu-east senatorial zone at the Senate come 2015.

“I also strongly believe that I have what it takes to become the most effective and vibrant senator Enugu-East senatorial district would ever produce, if given the opportunity to serve in 2015," he stated.

“With due respect to all those nursing the ambition for the seat, it is the electorate of the area who would decide who will represent them at the upper chamber of the National Assembly in 2015,” he said.

An indigene of Ozalla, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nweke served under the Obasanjo regime as the Information Minister between June 2005 and January 2007.

He was also at a point the Economic Adviser and later Chief of Staff to Governor Nnamani before his appointment as Minister of Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties.

Nweke is presently the Director-General of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG).

For his Senatorial ambition to be materialized, Nweke must out-muscle the incumbent Senator representing the zone, Gilbert Nnaji, Chief of Staff to Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, as well as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in the state, Chief Everest Nnaji.
