NIGERIA (Kano)- Following the resignation of the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Gambo Sallau, another person has been elected to replace him.

The new Speaker is Alhaji Ishiaku Danja, who was the Deputy Speaker until his appointment.

The House therefore elected Alhaji Hamisu Chidari, who was the Majority Leader as the new Deputy Speaker, while Alhaji Kabir Alhassan was elected the new Majority Leader.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, the former speaker announced his resignation in a broadcast in Kano.

He said his decision was based on political reasons, as he said “I, Gambo Sallau, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, hereby announce my resignation as the speaker.’’

Sallau and three other members had on Monday announced their decision in a local radio station to remain in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The decision came barely 24 hours after 26 of the 31 legislators defected to the APC from the PDP.
