Police Trains 160, 000 for 2015 General Election

NIGERIA (Abuja)- The Nigeria Police Force has expressed its readiness to ensure security of lives and properties of Nigerians, especially during the forthcoming general elections.

This was disclosed by a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer.

According to the statement, 160, 000 personnel are undergoing trainings on electoral duties at various Police institutions nationwide, adding that its functions would begin with the Ekiti and Osun States Governorship elections.

The statement said the IG, MD Abubakar  disclosed this when the U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, paid him a visit.

“The officers are receiving specialised training on electoral laws, election security, crowd control skills, anti-riot operations, covert intelligence operations and general principles of democratic policing’’, it said.

The statement said Mr. Entwistle promised that the United States of America shall constantly collaborate with the Nigeria Police in the area of capacity building and other security related matters.
