Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN)
NIGERIA (Lagos)- Three private schools operating illegally in Lagos State has been shut by the government.
This was disclosed yesterday in a statement credited to the state’s Commissioner for Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye.
According to the statement signed by Jide Lawal, the spokesperson for the ministry, the commissioner said that the schools contravened the guidelines on the establishment and operation of private schools.
The affected schools are Honesty Private School, Surulere, Heibenah Montessori Schools, Ijeshatedo, Surulere ; and Elyon Ambassador Private School, Oshodi.
Ms. Oladunjoye said that the building of one of the schools is sinking and has large cracks on the walls, indicating the fact that they lack some basic amenities needed to meet the standard of private secondary school.
“It also used a container as a classroom for Primary III pupils.
“This is a situation that not only endangers the lives of students at the school, but can apparently impact negatively on them during harsh weather,” the commissioner said.
Ms. Oladunjoye said the state government had served the management of the schools notices, advising them to relocate to structures suitable for them.
She advised private school operators to always abide by the rules and regulations guiding the establishment and operation of schools in the state.
