AIG David Omojola
NIGERIA (Oyo)- The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI Headquarter, AIG David Omojola has told the political parties in Southwest that the police have the right to regulate political activities to maintain law and order, security and public safety.
While meeting with the Zonal Political Party leaders from Ondo, Osun and Oyo States at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, he informs them that “no rally is allowed without the police permission so as to avoid clash of interest, invite police to your rally to educate your people and calm every situation.”
The AIG said the police have the task to maintain democracy:
“With the enthroning sanity and relative peace in social political settings are the import and main essence of the Public Order Act, Cap 328, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
He promised to be unbiased in rendering services to all political parties in the states.
Commenting the corporation of the various parties present, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Mohammed Ndabawa warns parties to desist from creating poster war against other parties. He assures the parties of his command support and protection during their rallies without any charges.
In his speech, the representative of the Ondo Commissioner of police, DCP Alkali said no act of indiscipline will be condoled in the state. He reminded the political parties of no campaign until three month to election day and seeks for cooperation among political parties especially in Southwest.
While giving his report, the DCP of Osun Command Abdullah Campane seeks for dialogue among parties and enjoined them to shun violence.
Meanwhile the AIG has commented the effort of the Oyo State Police Command in its activities at enforcing orderliness among the various chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
He warns that any arm of the union violating the law will be dealt with.
In their various responses, the Transition chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Abass Aleshinloye, commented the effort of the AIG and adviced the Oyo State Command to note that not only poster war is around the corner, but also billboard war.
Adeyemi Adeleke from Accord party and Mr. Smart of Labour party from Ondo State supported the view of Hon. Abass Aleshinloye.
