Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, has been closed down for the second time in the last two months, following a seven-day warning strike declared by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, of the University.

The first strike was declared a month ago by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over unpaid allowances put at about N500 million.

NASU, according to findings, has had its issues with the state government over non-payment of allowances to its members, put at about N1.5 billion.

The non-academic staff, after an emergency meeting yesterday, also declared a seven-day warning strike over the non-settlement of their salaries and other allowances.

The Joint Action Committee Chairman, Malam Mustapha Abdulkhadir, said the unions had to go on strike due to the lukewarm attitude of government to their plight.

At press time, efforts to reach the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nasir Maiturari, proved abortive.
