NIGERIA (Abuja)- The Senate was nearly thrown into a rowdy session on Wednesday when Senator Ita Enang, prayed that the Senate should declare the seats of Senators that openly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) vacant.

Senator Enang’s request therefore aroused sparks within the APC Senators who rose to defend the defectors and faulted the mover of the motion for making such a request.

Senate President, David Mark therefore ruled out Senator Enang’s appeal on the premise that it is against the rule of the Upper Chamber to make reference to any matter that is before a competent court.

He reminded Enang that the issue regarding defection or no defection is still pending in court.

It would be recalled that yesterday, at the floor of the Senate, five PDP Senators led by Bukola Saraki, openly declared their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following the refusal of the Senate President to read their letter of defection at the floor of the Senate.
