Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Yero
NIGERIA (Kaduna)- A N34 million shopping complex constructed by the Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in partnership with Kaduna State Market Development Authority has been inaugurated by Governor Ramalan Yero on Thursday.
Governor Yero, during the inauguration of the business edifice, urged media practitioners in the country to always be agents of change and instruments of peace whenever they are discharging their duties.
He also advised that the media should learn to separate politics from governance by allowing those in position of authority to do their work without distraction.
While commending the NUJ for its foresight regarding the project, Gov. Yero advised it to review the terms of the contract so as to gain from the proceeds of the project before it takes over full control in 2023.
“What we are doing today is therefore synonimous with promoting Public Private Partnership.
“It is my humble hope that you will use this complex to upgrade the activities the council.
“Also I will like to assure you of the state’s commitment to partner with any investor willing to explore our abundant resources so as to improve the living standard of our communities.”
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Commerce and Industry in the state, Mr. Joshua Uchissa said the agreement between the company and the NUJ would run for nine years.
“Which means that the company would manage the property while the lease holding subsists, and then handover the shopping complex on expiration of the agreement in the nineth year,” he said.
In the same vein, the state Chairman of the NUJ, Alhaji Yusuf Idris said the idea behind the project was to expand the scope of the union’s revenue base.
He commended the state government for the giant strides it recorded in the area of peace and security as well as roads rehabilitation.
