Worried by the state of the national economy and high level of corruption in the country, the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has sought for divine intervention. The Anglican Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, Most Reverend (Dr.) Joseph Akinfenwa, while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Friday, disclosed that the 1,000-strong member Standing Committee of the Church led by Primate, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh will on Monday embark on a week-long conference in Ibadan with a view to proffering an enduring solution to the endemic situations.
Akinfenwa, who reeled out a tale of woes as regards the national polity, concluded that with divine intervention, the forthcoming 2015 general elections would be a success story. While disabusing the minds of Nigerians on the fear over the prediction that the country would break up in 2015, Bishop Akinfenwa remarked that “God is able to overrule that prediction.
“We trust in God and we have been praying ceaselessly for His divine intervention.
We also believe that He will endow our leaders with the wisdom to take the right decision that will benefit all our nationals in the matter. The Church of Nigeria is on the side of righteousness,” Bishop Akinfenwa stated.
The cleric appreciated the architects of the much-talked-about National
Constitutional Conference saying it was in the right direction “and it is part of the possible solutions to the myriads of problems confronting Nigeria as a nation.”
The last edition of the Standing Committee meeting of the Church of Nigeria
(Anglican Communion) was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State last year with President Goodluck Jonathan delivering a keynote address to the gathering.
Oyo State Governor, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi is expected to host this year’s edition of the conference holding at St. James’ Cathedral, Oke Bola, Ibadan.
