Governor ,Oyo State, Nigeria, Abiola Ajimobi
Eight professors, among whom were Emeritus Professor and two-time Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Ayo Banjo and Professor Tekena Tamuno have commended the governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi's administration, praising it for its developmental feats across the state and describing his government as unprecedented. The scholars, who are spread across the nation and grouped under the aegis
of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, gave the commendation on Friday during a courtesy call on the governor in his office. Emeritus professor Banjo, who spoke on behalf of the professors, acknowledged that the state government had achieved great success in its transformation agenda, pointing out that the transformational drive had not been restricted to only Ibadan, the state capital, but cuts across every part of the state.
He explained that the visit to the governor was part of the activities scheduled for the association's national conference which is holding in the state, a forum where issues of socio-economic relevance and contributions to societal growth would be discussed. "Residents of Oyo State have continued to feel the impact of your transformation programme, particularly those of us who had been here for many years. The transformation is obvious, the transformation is physical and good; it has changed the behavioural attitude of many people. "We happily congratulate you and we wish you more successes in the state,"declared Prof Banjo.
In his contribution, the Vice President of the Academy, Prof. Benjamin Oloruntimehin, extolled the leadership virtues and humility of Governor Ajimobi, urging him to keep up the good works for the progress of the state. In his own comment, Professor Oloruntimehin, who said that he was Chairman of adebate session organized by an Ibadan-based radio station during the run-up to the 2011 elections, said he identified Ajimobi as the one who could transform the state out of the contestants, remarking that he was not disappointed at the end of the day. "I want to say this is the second time I will be meeting the governor. The first time was when I was invited to moderate a Splash F.M. debate programme. I was stunned by your personality, the huge intellectual endowment that you brought to be and your humility in dealing with others. I have told people we are not party men but I have found somebody here who obviously would give the leadership that this part of the country and even the whole country needs. Thank you for not disappointing us," he said.
In his response, the state governor Senator Ajimobi, assured that his administration would not relent in its efforts at transforming the state into a modern world, premised on the tripod of its transformation, restructuring and repositioning programme. The governor described education as very essential to the development of any society, adding that his administration had continued to accord priority attention to it and that it had introduced an e-learning programme for all students in the state, just as the state government was continuing its construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state.
