Stanley Mbagwe, a 30-year-old mand and a refrigerator repairer, was on Friday remanded in prison by the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
The magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi said the convict should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons and the case file sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case until June 4 for mention.
Mbagwe, who resides at Isolo area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, reported to the court that the accused committed the offence on May 1 at Ire-Akari area in Okota, Lagos State.
He said that the accused had lustful desire for the girl when he went to repair a refrigerator at her parents’ house and discovered they were not at home.
“He took her into the room, removed her pants, had sexual intercourse with her and pleaded with her not to tell anybody.
“Some neighbours, however, saw sperm gushing out from her private parts and asked what had happened to her.
“She told them what transpired between her and the accused,” he said.
Ayorinde said the girl’s parents reported the case to the police and the accused was apprehended for questioning.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). And the section attracts life imprisonment for offenders.
