News from Malawi indicated that mass campaign for male circumcision is currently ongoing with the government targeting 60,000 uncircumcised males across the country.

CEOAFRICA.com discovered that the ongoing Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) campaign is scheduled to last for 30-days.

The campaign is currently ongoing in the regions of Blantyre and Thyolo, but in few days time, it would extend to other key regions of Lilongwe, Mulanje, Nkhotakota and Phalombe, and the targets men are those within the age bracket of 15-49.

According to the National Health Programme Officer, Amon Khata, increase in sensitization campaign on VMMC is the key catalyst motivating men to come and participate and be circumcised.

“So far we have started in Blantyre and Thyolo districts, but in all centres, a lot of them are coming forth seeking the service. If the trend continues to be like this in the remaining districts, I am optimistic that the campaign will register success of reaching its target of having 60,000 males circumcised,” he said.

Furthermore, Mr. Amon Khata appealed to the general public to take advantage of the ongoing campaign. “We would like to ask faith based organizations, traditional leaders and others to encourage their followers to utilize the campaign so that no one should be left behind,” he said.
