The first female pharmacist VC in Nigeria, Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University Abeokuta, Professor Mrs Chinedum Peace Babalola, FAAS, FAS, has been awarded by the Association of Lady Pharmacists (ALPS) with the 2018 ALPS merit award at the 13th Biennial National Conference in Abuja, on Friday, June 22.

The Dinner/Award Night which was held at the Royal Choice Inn Conference Hall, Central Busines District (behind central Bank of Nigeria HQ) was witnessed by the Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye and other prominent female Pharmacists across the country.

Prof. Babalola, the only pharmacist awarded in Oyo state, is one of the scientists that reported the first pharmacogenetics study in healthy and sickle cell patients in Nigerians with pro-guanil as a probe. Her feasibility studies on drug interactions and metabolism suggest a decrease in bioavailability and bacterial activity of certain antibiotics when combined with some anti-malaria drugs.
