Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) have warned against the use of substandard plastic feeding bottles that has contributed to the rise in the cases of cancer in children.

Ms Neema Joshua, Tanzanian Infant and Young Child expert, revealed that the substandard feeding bottles emits toxic substances that causes cancer while boiling, adding that they contribute to the cancer cases among youths

The expert however, urge all parent to use cups which are easily cleaned or spoon-feed their infants instead of the plastic feeding bottle that need extra cleanliness, adding that plastic feeding bottles do not give infants much pleasure when suckling compared to breast-feeding which have greater health reward.

She further stated that TFNC has mandated to educate and mobilize the public on the proper nutrition means and measures to be taken while the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) and Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBC) control the quality.
