The Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Professor  Chinedum Peace Babalola has urged the Anglican Girls Guild to always say “NO” to Drug Abuse.

Prof. Babalola made the call during the 2018 Girls Guild Camping on the 9th August at Ibadan Anglican Diocese, Molete, Ibadan where she spoke on “DRUG, ITS USAGE AND ABUSE”.

The Vice Chancellor while delivering her speech laid much emphasis on self- medication and consequences, fake drugs, drug-related suicide, drug addiction and many more dangers of drug abuse.

The drug abuse fighter encouraged the girls to “BE WISE”. She used some quotations in the bible to illustrate the love of God to them and which she told them that God wants them to be in good health.

Also, she said that girls are also affected in the issue of drug abuse. While explaining how girls are being affected, she used the story of Cythia who was befriending some boys in Lagos was invited by those boys and she came down from Abuja and she was taken to the pharmacy and the boys bought some drugs which they mixed in her drink, gave to her and after taking the drink, she died and they buried her without telling anybody.

Prof. Chinedum said “to avoid buying fake drugs which could endanger our health, pharmacists are best to consult after the doctor might have prescribed drugs to buy.

“Doctors prescribe drugs, you buy drugs from a pharmacist”.

As an ardent crusader of fight against drug abuse, Prof. Babalola therefore urged the Anglican Girls Guild to also join in the fight against drug abuse, so as to make the world a better place to live.

While speaking with CEOAfrica, the Chrisland VC said for one to know that someone is under the influence of drug, the person(s) can be recognized when he/she is not behaving normally, shouting when there no reason to shout, when the person refuse to go to school, when the person have slump in speech, when the person engage in kidnapping and other vices.

She further stressed that the first remedy for addicted individuals is for them to recognize that they need help, that the person should be taken to a rehabilitation centre where the person will be monitored and also taken to a hospital (psychiatric), after that counsel the person.

“Counseling does a lot of work to people under the influence of drugs as it can help an addicted person change”, Prof. Babalola stated.

On the other hand, Mrs. Olukemi Bolaji one of the coordinators of the Girls Guild while speaking with CEOAfrica described the drug abuse talk as richly packaged and revealing. She therefore enjoined parents to move closer to their children as many of them could actually be living a double life.
