CLEEN FOUNDATION SURVEY REPORT ADVOCATES COOPERATION BETWEEN OPPOSITION AND RULING PARTIES

Current study in Nigeria Politics has proved that the country would better develop if there is cooperation between the opposition political parties and the ruling parties.

This was deduced on Monday from the words passed to the journalist by Prof. Etannabi Alemieke, board member of the non-governmental organization called CLEEN Foundation which carries out the study on political and democratic attitude in Nigeria.

According to the result of the survey Pro. Etannabi said, it is believed that opposition parties should regularly examine and criticize government policies and actions, as well as concentrate on cooperating with the government and helping it move the country forward.

He further highlights on the survey result, saying the majority of (55%) Nigerians subscribed that the more political parties in Nigeria, enhance real choices by the electorate, while a minority of Nigeria (44%) Nigeria said the more political parties in Nigeria, the more divisions and confusion breeds, indicating how unnecessary too many parties are in the country.

On the effectiveness of Democracy, Prof. said, 44% minority are not very satisfied with the way democracy works in Nigeria, 25% said not to be satisfied at all, 28% said to be fairly satisfied while 2%  vehemently said democracy does not exist in Nigeria.

Mrs. Kemi Okenyodo, Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation, said the purpose was to measure popular perspectives on the socio-political and economic environment.

She explained that, 2,400 respondents from 36 states and Abuja comprising of males and females of between 18years and above were interviewed in their homes, adding that the survey provides high quality public opinion data to policy-makers, policy advocates and civil society organizations, academics, media, donors, investors and ordinary Africans.
