Former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dejo Raimi has cautioned that what Governor Muritala Nyako of Adamawa State said about Boko Haram should not be ignored or swept under the carpet.

Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan on Saturday, the PDP leader in Oyo State said President Jonathan should take decisive decisions on how to bring the Boko Haram down and give this country a new image.

"We are already overdue for new things to talk about in Nigerian polity. If we spend the whole of our time talking about insurgency, when are we going to talk about development? We should be allowed to concentrate on the ongoing Constitutional Conference which is the main issue and the rudiment of our existence as a nation", the PDP chieftain said.

He expressed serious concern about the allegation of genocide levelled against President Goodluck Jonathan by Nyako, saying that for a weighty allegation like that coming from a calibre of Nyako was throwing the unity of the country to the dogs, to put it mildly.

Nyako's letter to his counterparts in the Northern part of the country in which he said the President was happy at the Boko Haram insurgents' activities in the area because of the decimation of their people had been generating controversies.

"Nyako belongs to the group of Northern oppressors, who believe in keeping their inhabitants away from education, knowledge and civilization so that they can continue to rely on them for all their needs, including their daily food.

"He doesn't believe in giving the kind of education that saw him becoming a success either in the military or politics to the children of the poor and the cattle rearers so that they can continue to be oppressed and suppressed.

"Can we say he's becoming senile because of his age? To have survived in the Nigerian Army where he served for 35 years before coming into politics and to be saying what has been credited to him, something is definitely wrong somewhere with him.

"The Nyako that served in the military was not the one making the present utterances, he was not seen as a northern extremist, but seen as a moderate northerner. With that kind of statement, he has thrown the unity of Nigeria to the dogs", Raimi maintained.
