Drug abuse roundtable to unravel hidden issues - Abiodun Ajibade

The Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Oyo state chapter,Pharmacist Abiodun Ajibade has revealed that he is organising a programme which will reveal hidden issues surrounding drug abuse.

He made the revelation in an exclusive interview with CEOAfrica at an event marking World Pharmacists day in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The event which also doubles as the flag off of the "drug abuse roundtable" – a programme which has its focus on addressing various issues relating to drug abuse.

" The aim of the drug abuse roundtable is to elicit discuss towards unravelling those issues that are hidden, so that by the time we engage in discussions those things can be revealed and once that is done, actions can be taken in appropriate dimension.

" The importance of drug abuse roundtable is to begin to ellicit stakeholders engagement where we are going to have various stakeholders come around to discuss these issues with the sole purpose of driving at an advantage to get to the rudiment of those things we need to work on to bring about total eradication of drug abuse among the people," he said.

On identifying fake drugs, he said, " this is one area that is very difficult because a fake drug might look even more attractive than the original drug. People are perfecting everything but one thing you should do if you want to run away from fake drugs is to always patronise registered legal premises manned by pharmacists because he knows that his license would be revoked if he is dealing in fake drugs".

He added that all pharmacists know how to source their drugs and urged the public to get their drugs only from registered pharmacists.
