President Santos swears in Judges in Angola

His Excellency, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, the Angolan Head of State, had sworn in newly appointed counselor judges of the Supreme Court and audit courts, as well as new Assistant Attorneys General.

The ceremony which was held at the Presidential Palace, Luanda, witnessed the investiture of Manuel Migul da Costa Aragao, Cristiano Morales de Abril e Silva, Joel Leonardo and Lizete de Purificacao Verissimo da Costa e Silva, as counselor judges to the Supreme Court. Also invested are; Joao da Cruz Pitra, AugustoEscrivao, Manuel Anthonio Dias da Silva, Valentim Comboio, Jose Martinho Nunes and Maria Teresa Marcal Andre Baptista Borges.

However, Aniceto Miguel da Costa Aragao, Gilberto de Faria Magalhaes, Caetano Francisco Baiao and Eva Francisco da Costa Almeida were inaugurated as the counselor judges to the Audit Court.

Furthermore, the following were sworn in as Assistant Attorneys General; Luis de Assuncao Pedro da Mota Liz, Joaquim Elias Margues Junior, Joao Vemba Coca, Inocencia Maria Goncalo Pinto Mendes Adao, Joao Simao Chapopia Leonardo, Adao Anthonio Pedro, Maria Nazare Castel Pacavira de Carvalho and Pulgueria de Fatima da Silva Van- Dunem Morera Bastos.

The Angolan Leader said that the curriculum tenders and other procedures used to choose the magistrates, enabled to select the most capable to exercise the expected task, but also gather cadres from various generations and integrate in the system younger people and acceptable proportions.

President dos Santos expressed his satisfaction at presiding over this ceremony as a very extraordinary for the continuation of the reform and consolidation of judicial power in Angola also regarded as one of the foundations for democratic and rule of law state.

He said”I congratulate the new official and wish them success in the compliance with their mission, so that we may have an acting and modern justice system, aimed to serve the nation”

Present at the ceremony are the Vice-President of the Republic, Manuel Vicente, Parliament Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Chiefs Justice of the Constitutiotal, Supreme and Audit Courts, respectively Rui Ferreira, Cristiano Andre, Juliao Antonio, and the Angolan Attoney General Joao Maria de Sousa.
